Walters State Community College, also known as The Great Smoky Mountains Community College, or simply as Walters State or WSCC, is a state community college located in Morristown Tennessee. The school is run by the Tennessee Board of Regents. WSCC was established in 1970. The school takes its name from a former US Senator Herbert Walters. Walter State Community College serves most of the counties in Eastern Tennessee, specifically in the Clinch and Great Smoky Mountains area. The four campuses accept an average of almost 7,000 students each term. Because the school serves such a large and diverse area, there are four campuses hosted by Walters State. The main campus is found in Morristown, with satellite branches found in Greeneville, Sevierville, and New Tazewell. In recent years, the school has also created and absorbed the Claiborne campus, which was moved to location of the former Claiborne County High school.
The school offers University Parallel Majors including majors in subjects such as Accounting, Agriculture, Art, Astronomy, Biology, Business, Broadcasting, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Dance, Economics, English, Finance, Foreign Languages, Geology, History, Journalism, Liberal Arts, Management, Marketing, Mass Communications, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Physical Education, Health and Recreation, and Political Science. Other Technical Education Programs incude Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Networking, Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Electromechanical Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Information Technology, Nursing, Office Administration, Paralegal Studies, Pharmacy Technician, and Physical Therapist Assistant.
Walters State has intramural and varsity sports including baseball, golf, cheerleading, softball, and basketball. The school colors are red white and blue and the school nickname are the Senators.
